If you could change one thing about your life what would it be?

We talk about goals and intentions – what we want to do, but we don’t often look at what we would change.
I’m going to encourage you to give yourself a great gift this year. Can you do that? Can you commit to YOU? Yep, that’s right I’m encouraging you to stop thinking about the shopping, gift giving, whether to have a holiday party, if you have to show up at every party you’re invited to, when you will make those cookies for the school bazaar, and so on. For once think about you and that one thing you would change about your life.
Contemplate this:
What one thing would I change about my life if I could?
For instance this year I wanted more freedom, so I decided to work at home on Fridays. I know what you’re thinking, “but you’re still working, so how does that give you more freedom?”
Because it’s quiet! No one interrupts me! I have the freedom to think and plan and write. I can work on creative projects like the newsletter, blog articles, ideas for marketing & inventory, what I want to share with clients, how to help a particularly resistant client…you get the picture!
In my quiet home office, It even takes less time to get administrative tasks done (no interruptions), which then frees my time for more client appointments, which is what I LOVE! It’s only been a few weeks, but I can see the benefits, not only to me, but to the center. The piles of backed up work are dwindling and I’m happier because I’m not so stressed. Just because of one simple change!
What’s the one thing you will change about your life? Don’t think about what you want to do, decide what you will commit to do.
If you commit to a healthy body, what does that mean to you, and what are you actually willing to do? Will you modify your food intake, exercise more, or both?
If you commit to working less, what is one step you can take right now towards that? If you normally leave the office at 7pm, can you leave at 6:30? 6:45?
If you commit to finding a new job, are you ready to post your resume on Indeed? Are you ready to network for new possibilities?
If you commit to making your relationship/s better, are you willing to do what it takes? What does that look like? Do you need a counselor to help you with this one?
If you commit to getting your finances in order, are you willing to really look at what that entails, do you have to give up spending, or figure out how to make more money? How’s your abundance consciousness?
If you commit to hiking more, or eating more chocolate, or playing with kids or helping at a senior center, or finding adventure, what is the one small step you can take today to move you toward that change?
Once you decide what you want to change, commit to it and then come up with similar questions to challenge yourself to make the change. If you’re unsure how to proceed this might be a good time to find a coach. A good coach with help you be clear on the change/s you want to make, will help you clear out the obstacles, guide you towards your action steps, ask you to commit and then hold you accountable. If for whatever reason you can’t work with a coach or counselor at this time, I highly recommend Martha Beck’s books, especially “Steering by Starlight” or “Finding Your Own North Star”. Beck is very straightforward, wise, empathic and witty. Her books have great insight, strategies and exercises to move you forward. It’s life coaching in a book. Some of you, however, will need a coach to hold you accountable…you know who you are!
Whatever you commit to doing, remember this is a gift to yourself! If you truly are ready to be happy, to feel fulfilled, to know your purpose, to have more me time, to be free, step up now and commit to YOU! You Got This!
